Kenneth McHardy Erskine

Birth:
January 18th 1941
Death:
June 12th 2020

It is with profound sadness that the family of Kenneth McHardy Erskine, age 79 of Hinchinbrooke, Quebec, now of Huntingdon, announces his passing on June 12th 2020. Born on the first Concession of Hinchinbrooke, he was the eldest son of the late George Ernest Erskine and the late Edna McHardy Erskine. Kenneth was the loving husband to his wife, Carol Mae Sproule for 37 years, and a proud dad to Diana Mae (Lyman Irving). Kenneth was a passionate and adored papa to Peyton Mae, Kail Kenneth and Troy Bruce Irving. Survived by his siblings, Donald (Donna), Stanley (Beverly) and Susan, brother-in-law to Wayne Sproule, Keith Sproule, their families, several nieces, nephews, family and friends, which he enjoyed. His life involved being a Farmer, doing Spring and Fall work, going to the bush to cut wood, as he would remark on how peaceful it would be to hear the birds sing and all other nature around. He was a active member of Rennie's United Church as an Elder for some time. He enjoyed his curling for many years in Huntingdon, playing "Military Whist" cards at the legion in Huntingdon every monday night, and with his family gatherings and in-laws, quiet by nature but yet would speak to people and enjoy a visit. After retirement he enjoyed working with flowers and on his lawn. He was passionate with his vegetable garden. He also enjoyed his day-trips and surrounded by family. Kenneth is already sorely missed and memories of him will be forever treasured. Due to the circumstances, the funeral will be held in the intimacy of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kenny's memory may be made to Rennie's United Church or to S.A.B.E.C. Funeral Entrusted to Rodrigue Montpetit et Fils Inc. 170 Châteauguay St., Huntingdon, Quebec J0S 1H0, 450-264-5331. Online condolences and tributes may be made at www.rodriguemontpetitfils.com

Dear Carol and Diana and family. I am so very sorry to hear of Kenny passing. I have always thought of kenny as a special person. He loved all of his family so much, and was so easy to visit with. He helped at Rennies United and we depended on his help for many things there. We would just ask for his help and he would be there to lend a hand. Take care and I am sure you have many precious memories to treasure. Love to all.

My deepest sympathy is extended to Carol, Diana and all the family. Kenny was such a super nice person with a kind smile for everyone. He will be greatly missed by all the many friends that knew him. I can't imagine walking into church on a Sunday and not having Kenny inside the door with a friendly "good morning" greeting for us. Please take comfort in the fact that he will always be close in your heart and in the special memories that you will always treasure.

A man is measured by what he leaves behind in this world, Kenny leaves behind a loving and devoted family, a legacy of warmth, humour, and kindness, and chersihed memories fondly held in the hearts and minds of all those that have had the honour of calling him Husband, Father, Grandfather, Son, Brother, Uncle, Brother in law, and Friend. He will be remembered and loved forevermore. Debbie, Margaret and Quinn Sproule

    Dear Diana and Carol,
I was so sorry to read about Ken's passing. I remember him fondly when he and you Carol, would come to Franklin School for many events. The most memorable times were during teacher/parent interviews. He was so proud of you Diana. He would often stay longer than an interview required as he loved to hear all the wonderful things about you. He would laugh and enjoy the time at "The School." I send you both my love; a difficult time for you all.

  • Rev. Dr. Scott Hunter

As I think about Ken, I have fond memories of Ken and the Rennie’s United Strawberry Social. I remember going to my first “set up” to help. The women were talking on one side - and the men were all gathered on the other side of the room in Rockburn Hall. I started to walk over towards the ladies to see if I could “do” something - move a table here or there. Ken whispered loudly - “Get over here!” and motioned for me to come over with the men. So I went over. Ken looked me in the eye and said quietly but firmly - with that smile he usually had on his face - “Git over here, Scott. Now... - we don’t do anything - till they (motioning towards the ladies) tell us to - and we don’t have ideas either. So...just stay here with us - and you’ll be okay.” I was.
I keep Carol, Diana, Lyman, the grandchildren - and his brothers and sister - Stan, Don and Susan - and all the rest of the family in my prayers. I also keep Rennie’s United Church in my prayers as they say goodbye to a treasured friend.
