VAILLANCOURT, Ernest “Ernie” Ronaldo

Birth:
October 9, 1932
Death:
February 15, 2020

In Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu on February 15, 2020, at the age of 87, Ernest “Ernie” Vaillancourt passed away peacefully after a long illness.  He leaves behind his loving wife of 55 years, Betty (nee Beare), daughters Sandra (Darryl Ryan) and their two children Leigh and Meagan, and Anne (Shaun Clare), his brother William “Bill” Flynn as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be fondly remembered by his many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, step-grandchildren Kelsey and Ryan, and great-grandchildren Aveline and Felix. From humble beginnings working in the textile industry in his hometown of Huntingdon, Quebec at Cleyn & Tinker, Ernie worked his way up the ranks to retire as Chief Executive Officer of Collins & Aikman in 1996. Many of his work colleagues became lifelong friends. He was the life of many parties and was a master joke teller. He loved nothing more than helping family and friends, some of whom were a great help to him during his illness. The family would like to thank them, as well as the doctors and nurses at the Hôpital du Haut-Richelieu for their wonderful care. At Ernie’s request there will be a graveside service on May 16, 2020 at 1:00 pm, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Hinchinbrooke, Quebec. If desired, donations in memory of Ernie can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. • Doreen Briant(nee Flynn)

Condolences to you Aunt Betty, Sandra and Anne and spouses.
One happy memory we have, of Uncle Ernie, was from our wedding day. He was our chauffeur.
We didn't see each other very much after we moved to Ontario.
During this time of his illness he was on our hearts in prayer.

I am very saddend by the passing of my Uncle Ernie. It's been a long time since I lived in Huntingdon (40 years) but as a young boy I remember him as being so tall. And stylish. And sophisticated. And I remember he always drove a Cadillac. These all made a big impression on me. Uncle Ernie showed me that you could come from meagre beginnings in a very small town and make something of yourself, to improve and to achieve. I will always remember him that way. And I remember he & Betty being so gracious to me as a kid. And how he'd brag about Sandra & Annie (I can admit, I was a bit jealous). My condolences to Aunt Betty, Sandra & Annie at this very difficult time.

Uncle Ernie was a person who from humble beginnings accomplished a great deal in his professional life. Very few are able to begin his life where he begun and finish where he did. He also had a great family with his caring and supportive wife Betty, and helped raise two wonderful people in cousins Sandra and Anne. Uncle Ernie lived a full life well worth living.
