1929-2023
Harrigan, Melvin Harris (Sept 24, 1929 - Nov 11, 2023). It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Melvin Harrigan. Aside from brief stays in Massena and Cornwall, Melvin lived his entire life in Huntingdon. As a youngster Melvin played the trombone and trained as a cadet. Later he was a foundry worker and eventually started his own welding shop. Melvin married his love, Ruth Brown and together they built their home. A life-long musician, Melvin originally played trombone for both the Huntingdon Academy Boys Band and the Huntingdon Citizen Brass Band. He subsequently took to the bagpipes and was a founding member of the Chateauguay Valley Highland Pipe Band (where he taught many students who continue to play the instrument). Later, along with his wife Ruth, he was a proud member of the Elgin and District Pipes and Drums. Melvin was also known for his sense of humor and his ability to tell a good joke. He will be remembered as a loving husband and supportive father. Melvin is survived by his wife of over 50 years (Ruth Brown) and his two sons Tom Dooley and Jim Dooley (Jackie Watson). He is also survived by five of his siblings Lois, Jean, Myrna, Warren and Helen. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 18 from 1 to 3 p.m., at Rodrique Montpetit et Fils Inc. 170 Chateauguay St., Huntingdon Quebec, 450- 264-5331.
