1937-2025
Born September 7, 1937 in Godmanchester, Quebec, Mr. Stanley John Reid peacefully passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 9th, 2025, aged 87 years. Married, August 14, 1965, Stanley is survived by his beloved wife Muriel Waldie Reid. He leaves to mourn his children Kenneth (Heidi Carlson Reid), Sarah (William Griffiths) and Matthew (Rebecca Hooker), his grandchildren Katherine, Emmaline, Logan, Michael, Reid, Mikayla, Samuel, Stanley and Ella. He was the cherished son of Charles Reid and Florence Reid (nee Farquhar), brother to Alison (Campbell Murray), Kathleen (Bruce Rutledge) and Heather.
Stanley was a proud graduate of MacDonald College, class of 1960, and faithfully attended annual reunions. A dedicated farmer throughout his life, he transformed our family farm into a modern and progressive cash crop, beef and maple operation. Stanley had a passion for making maple syrup and in his later years, he found joy in revisiting his childhood hobby of building intricate Meccano models, creating some truly remarkable pieces. It was this early hobby as a child, and an engineering mindset that allowed Stanley to build many implements and equipment on the farm, and repair anything from a diesel engine to his daughter’s tricycle. Stanley and his wife Muriel attended Onward Gospel Church, and he is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Stanley was a councilor for the municipality of Godmanchester from 1978 to 2005. He also served on the school board. Stanley’s legacy of hard work and innovation will be cherished by all who knew him. Of his many accomplishments, most significant is the farm he built and passed on to his youngest son, Matthew, the fourth generation of Reid farmers, soon to transition to the fifth. It is a great foundation, and testament to Stanley’s quiet determination, selfless work and love of the land and his family. “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” – Galatians 6:9
